Tracking
Tracking is the aiming skill of keeping your crosshair over a moving target, usually whilst holding left mouse which adds extra mouse pressure compared to just moving the mouse in your usual grip.
Somewhat uniquely to Tracking it’s possible for a drill to be too easy or too hard. In other aiming drills you can always click faster and score higher. In tracking if the target is moving too slowly a good player will always get 100% and conversely if the target is too fast an average player will score <5% and have a miserable time. For this reason, for tracking only we have created Normal and Elite versions which offer a great experience to the appropriate skill level.
Excellent tracking requires understanding of potential movement patterns and the practice of dealing with them. In game this means you understand opponent speed, how quickly and how often they might change direction and what happens when they jump or crouch. In the aim training environment these patterns are taken to either extreme with slow & smooth strafes to learn the basics right up to super fast unpredictable movements unconstrained by physics to practice instant reactions to changes in direction.
Tracking is split between Smoothness and Reactivity.
Smoothness Tracking
Smoothness Tracking is all about targets with predictable behaviours. The target does not display elements of unpredictability and everything can be anticipated in advance. The focus here is to move the mouse as smoothly as possible while remaining over the target. New players will notice they use a series of jerky movements when they fall behind the target. Watch the experts to see how smooth they move.
Benefits:
- Learn the basics of tracking with smooth, continuous movements
- Challenge for top players to get 100% scores
Reactive Tracking
Reactive Tracking involves targets with unpredictable behaviours. This means that the target will involve elements found in real games, such as unpredictable strafes and jumps.
These movements are usually harsh and not easy to predict. This is where anticipation comes in. You must not predict when a certain behavior will occur, only that it may happen and that you must be ready to adapt to that change.
Benefits:
- Improve ability to react and adapt to direction changes
- Learn behaviours found in FPS games
